The Tree of Light: Part 50

This is the fiftieth sample of  The Tree of Light: The Lives of the Prophets for Young Muslims available now on Amazon.  This is the first volume of a three volume series with maps, pictures and paintings of important sites and Maqams related to the stories of the Prophets.  This series would be an ideal source for the Tree of Prophets  project featured here on our website.  In this adaptation of Hajiah Amina Adil’s comprehensive history of the Prophets a sage grandfather tells the stories of the Prophets to his two adventurous grandsons who learn that the stories of the Prophets have come to life.

He told Ibrahim (a) to tie him and turn his face away so that it would be easier to make the sacrifice.  Ibrahim (a) tried to cut Ismail (a) 70 times but he was protected by the Angel, and the sheep sacrificed by Habil (son of Adam (a)) was used instead.

Sulayman threw his stones hard at the pillar just as Grandfather did and Yusuf’s pebbles fell short because he couldn’t throw very hard. Grandfather gave him more pebbles and he kept trying.

Ismail (a) lived in Mecca with his mother most of his life and married one lady whom Ibrahim (a) disapproved of because she was not hospitable.  When Ibrahim (a) came to visit she would not receive him. After divorcing the first lady Ismail (a) married Sayyida (r).  She was blessed by Ibrahim (a) and her children were to become part of the line of Prophets which made her very happy.  The Prophet Muhammad (s) came from the family of Ismail (a).

When their Hajj was nearly completed the boys went with their Grandfather to find a sheep.  They found a shepherd on their walk and the boys played with the sheep and petted their heads and soft wool while Grandfather spoke with the old Bedouin shepherd.

The shepherd showed Grandfather all the sheep that were mature for the sacrifice but Grandfather kept looking around the field. He came to a small group of bushes and parted the branches with his staff.  There was a large sheep grazing behind the bush and Grandfather told the shepherd that he wanted this one.  The shepherd looked reluctant.  He said this sheep was special.  This sheep was the father of the whole herd and had been with the shepherd a very long time.  Grandfather asked him how long, but the shepherd was very old and said he could not remember.  Sulayman took the staff from the shepherd and started pushing the sheep along and chasing the stragglers.  Yusuf petted the big sheep and told him not to worry.

The shepherd and Grandfather could not come to an agreement but the shepherd invited them to dinner.  They met the shepherd’s family and son.  The shepherd told Grandfather that his son and daughter in law had no baby even though they had been married for 10 years. Grandfather smiled and asked if they wanted to have a baby.  They said yes so Grandfather said that if the shepherd helped him sacrifice the old sheep that he’d asked for he would make dua that the couple would have a baby. The shepherd immediately agreed and kissed Grandfather’s hand.
