The Tree of Light: Part 33

This is the thirty third sample of The Tree of Light: The Lives of the Prophets for Young Muslims available now on Amazon.  This is the first volume of a three volume series with maps, pictures and paintings of important sites and Maqams related to the stories of the Prophets.  This series would be an ideal source for the Tree of Prophets  project featured here on our website.  In this adaptation of Hajiah Amina Adil’s comprehensive history of the Prophets a sage grandfather tells the stories of the Prophets to his two adventurous grandsons who learn that the stories of the Prophets have come to life.

Part 33:

The people asked that the boulder become a camel and that camel would have a foal. Salih (a) asked for the miracle and the boulder spilt and a camel emerged.  After some time, the she camel had a foal and Salih (a) admonished the people to leave the camels in peace.

Salih (a) making dua for the miracle of the she camel.

“If I ask for a miracle can I have a camel?” asked Sulayman.

Yusuf shook his head.  “No no no camel!”  he squeaked.

The camel was thirsty so Salih (a) brought her to the well, and when she drank all the water the people feared there would be no more.  But miraculously the well filled again with water.  The camel gave milk to all who approached her with good intention on every other day.

“Is camel milk good or yucky?” asked Sulayman. The Bedouin man brought the boys some little cups with camel milk.

“Good!” Yusuf squeaked after he sipped his cup. Sulayman looked doubtful so Yusuf drank the second cup.

One day Salif, the enemy of Salih (a), killed the she camel because the idol worshipers had told him it was the only way to bring back the girl he loved.  The unbelievers that followed Salif tried to find and kill the followers of Salih (a), but they could not find them and were killed by falling rocks and boulders thrown by angels.

Salih (a) sought the camel foal once he heard that the she camel was slaughtered and saw the foal disappear into the split boulder.  Now that the camels were gone Salih (a) told the people that they had three days before Allah’s (s) punishment would fall upon them.  The first day they would turn red, the second saffron yellow and the third day they would turn black.  The fourth day they would be destroyed.  After delivering this prophecy he took his followers to the mosque on the mountain.

“You’re turning yellow!”  Sulayman pointed to Yusuf.  Yusuf screamed and started crying when he looked down at his hands in the fire light.  Grandfather frowned at Sulayman and put Yusuf on his lap to let him play with his prayer beads.
