Today we reviewed the battle of Hunayn in the Sira of the Prophet (s).
During the battle the Prophet (s) threw a handful of soil and an army of angels came once more to aid the Muslim army. We learned about the distribution of the wealth won in the battle by the Prophet (s) primarily to the Meccans. Following the battle the Prophet (s) freed the captives once again setting an example of mercy and chivalry in a martial setting.
Several of the chapters in this Sira have dealt with battles. As a Muslim parent that would very much like to emphasize the peaceful and merciful example of the Prophet (s) the martial subjects in the Sira made me a bit anxious. Now that we have nearly completed this project it occurs to me that creating another project that focuses on the mercy and chivalry of Muslim leaders might be very useful. I would very much like to emphasize that when conflict occurs that the true followers of the example of the Prophet (s) seek peace with their enemies and set an example of fairness and mercy. I now feel less anxious about this subject and a little more inspired.
