Sira: The Trench

Tonight we reviewed the battle of the trench in the Sira of the Prophet (s).

This battle was different from the others. A man named Salman (r) from Persia suggested that they dig a trench to protect the city of Medina.  This man had traveled from Persia to find the Prophet (s) and first saw him from atop a palm tree.  The trench suggested by Salman (r) was successful in protecting the city of Medina from the approaching army.

We were very impressed with this strategy because fewer lives were lost before the battle ended.  The whole city of Medina worked together to dig the trench for their protection.  This is a beautiful example for children of how Muslims can work together to achieve a good result.
