Tonight we read about the miracle the Prophet (s) performed with the moon in the children’s sira The Light of Muhammad by Hajjah Amina Adil.
We learned about the part of the Prophet’s (s) story where Omar (r) was on his way to kill the Prophet (s). My son wanted to know why Omar (r) did not kill the Prophet (s) and I explained that Omar (r) accepted Islam instead.
I asked my son what he would think if he saw the moon split in two and he said that he would be shocked.
We learned about the part of the story where the camels brought a great treasure and the treasure is turned to dust. When we talked about why the Prophet (s) asked for the treasure to turn to dust. My son said that maybe it was better to see the treasures of heaven than to have treasures on earth and then he said that he really wanted to see the treasures of heaven.
We learned about the part of th story where the Prophet (s) went to Taif and the children threw stones at him there. My son asked why they did that. I explained that they did not want to listen to the Prophet (s).
Please share your ideas for teaching the sira of the Prophet (s) to children.
