14. Illuminated Quran: Ibrahim Lesson Review

Tonight we reviewed the lesson plan for 14. Illuminated Quran: Ibrahim .

We read the story of Ibrahim in My Little Lore of Light by Hajjah Amina Adil.  If you would like to know more about our lesson for Ibrahim (a) in our Tree of Prophets  project please see Tree of Prophets:  Ibrahim (a).

This surah says that the mightiest lead mankind out of darkness and into light.  When I asked my son what it means to be mighty he wasn’t sure so I told him it meant the strong.  I asked him what was the darkness that Ibrahim (a) wanted us to leave behind.  We discussed how Ibrahim (a) wanted the people to leave the worship of idols.

This surah speaks about Ibrahim’s (a) prayer that his family be preserved from worshipping idols in Mecca.  I asked my son who built the first Kaaba.  He couldn’t remember so I asked him who the first man on earth was and he said that Adam (a) built the first Kaaba.

I asked my son who built the second Kaaba.  We discussed how Ibrahim (a) and his sons built the second Kaaba.  I asked my son why Ibrahim (a) prayed to be saved from idol worship.  He said that Allah (s) is the only God and Allah (s) doesn’t like idol worship.

Please share your experiences when exploring the meaning of the Quran with your children.
