68. Illuminated Quran: The Pen

This surah speaks about the pen which represents the permanent record for revelation.  The first letter of the surah, nun, may represent a fish or vessel of ink.

This surah also mentions the story of Yunus (a) who was swallowed by a great fish and for 40 days rested there before he was delivered again upon the shore. If you would like to read more about his story to your children there is a chapter concerning him in My Little Lore of Light by Hajjah Amina Adil.

Discussion question:  was the pen one of the first things to be created?  What kind of things do you write with a pen?  Who is Yunus (a)?

Please share your ideas for teaching children about the Tafseer of Quran.
