59. Illuminated Quran: The Exile

This surah speaks about a group of people that were exiled from Mecca for breaking their contract with the Muslims.    They destroyed their own property before departing so no one could have use of it after they left.  

If you would like to read more about this event to your children there are chapters concerning The Battle of Uhud and the Battle of The Trench in The Light of Muhammad by Hajjah Amina Adil. 

The surah also says that the unnecessary destruction of trees and crops is not permitted by Muslims even in war.

Discussion question:  is it important to keep your word and the commitments you make to the people who depend upon you?  Why is it forbidden to destroy things unecessarily?
