34. Illuminated Quran: Sheba

This surah mentions Sulayman (a) and the Queen of Sheba.  If you would like to read the story of Sulayman (a) to your children there is a chapter concerning him in My Little Lore of Light by Hajjah Amina Adil.

Discussion question:  who was the Queen of Sheba?

This surah mentions a part of the story of Sulayman (a) where he passed away and he was held up by his staff so he appeared to be living until a worm ate the staff and it was revealed to the Jinn that Sulayman (a) was dead.

Discussion question:  why did Allah (s) make it appear that Sulayman (a) was still living?  Why did Allah (s) then reveal that Sulayman (a) had passed away?

Image:  this is supposed to represent the staff of Sulayman (a) with the worm that will destroy it.

Please share your ideas for teaching children about the Tafseer of Quran.
